Stop by any one of our locations and pick up a pre-registration packet; a family service coordinator will then contact you for an appointment. A staff member will go over all the necessary paperwork that you need to bring back with you for your appointment.
Head Start is mandated to have 10% of its slots allocated for children with disabilities or special needs.
Children will receive comprehensive developmental services in the areas of physical development and health, language and literacy, approaches to learning, cognition and general knowledge, and social-emotional development. Children receive all of this in a fun, child-centered environment that recognizes parents as a child’s first teacher.
Head Start is a federal program for preschool children from low-income families. The Head Start program is operated by various agencies in almost every county in the country. Children who attend Head Start participate in a variety of educational activities. They also receive free medical and dental care, have healthy meals and snacks, and enjoy playing indoors and outdoors in a safe setting.
Head Start helps all children succeed. Services are offered to meet the special needs of children with disabilities. Most children in Head Start are between the ages of 3 and 5 years old.
Parents with children in Head Start participate in all aspects of the program. They help to govern, plan what children learn, and provide advice about needed services. Parents and other community members also volunteer in classrooms and other parts of the programs.
All families are encouraged to apply to Head Start as slots are given on a points system. While you may not meet the income guidelines, you may have enough points in other categories that make you eligible for the program.
